Located in Paddington, Sydney, recent empty-nester couple Fletcher and Rosie Mann requested for their terrace residence to be redesigned.

For this brief, I was required to create a complete drawing package for the property which included existing and demolition plans, floorplans, furniture plans, reflected ceiling plans (RCP), sections, elevations, and details in order to represent the home. The clients requested that open-plan living be incorporated into the design to allow for a seamless flow from one space to another, whilst also factoring in some private retreats for the couple to enjoy.

To commence the spatial planning process, I began by looking at the existing floorplans to identify the original layout of each level and identify the key living areas such as the living and dining rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Taking a blank floorplan, I began to sketch out each level’s new layout, taking into consideration the requests from the client as well as the functionality of each space. This assisted in developing the public and private realms of the home to easily segregate the spaces.

The public realms of the home spanned across the basement and ground levels as these levels were where guests would be accessing the building from, via the garage (basement) or street level (ground floor). The basement was designed to house the laundry and mudroom, bathroom, study desk, and media room. The ground floor featured the living and dining rooms as well as the kitchen and outdoor balcony. Levels 1 and 2 then saw the private realms of the property allocated. Level 1 featured a guest bedroom, bathroom, and 2-seater office, whilst level 2 was designed as the couple’s retreat, incorporating an open loft design that housed the main bedroom, walk-in robe (WIR), and ensuite with double showers, and vanity.
