Client Brief
Expantion of the existing kitchen as well as renovations to the main bathroom and ensuite
Located in the Sydney suburb of Ashfield, clients Issey and Jesse sought to infuse their unique style of “Colourful 60's Modern Retro” into their home through the use of materials and joinery styles, aiming to uplift their standard apartment. Our journey began with a series of client meetings to better understand their requirements and style preferences. Through these discussions, we gained insight into their passion for the 60’s retro aesthetic and their desire to create a vibrant, modern space in their kitchen, bathroom, and ensuite. Following these initial meetings, we developed design solutions to accommodate their needs for an expanded kitchen and a complete renovation of the main bathroom and ensuite, taking into account the building restrictions imposed by complex community guidelines.
After creating a range of floor plan options for all three spaces, we presented them to Issey and Jesse to gather feedback on their preferred layouts and styles, particularly since the kitchen was their main entertaining area. Based on their input, we refined the design development plans and began selecting materials. Our approach considered their usage of each space, particularly in the kitchen, as both clients enjoy cooking and experimenting with new recipes, requiring ample benchtop space and pantry storage for their cooking ingredients.
To initiate the fixtures, finishes, and equipment schedule, we contacted suppliers regarding the finishes for each area, including kitchen splashbacks, benchtops, joinery finishes, flooring options, and fixtures. This process was similarly applied to the main bathroom and ensuite, with diverse colourway options presented to create two distinct spaces, allowing for more vibrant hues within the home. By offering various colour combinations for Issey and Jesse to review, we expanded their consideration of options and preferences, potentially introducing them to colours they had not initially thought of. The finalised floor plans and materials boards were then presented, and Issey and Jesse expressed their satisfaction with our work, indicating their eagerness to proceed with the new additions once the building funds were secured.
